MEET THE TEAM

Karla Bennett

Karla Bennett

Owner & L2 Coach

Karla, a certified Level 2 Crossfit Instructor, and a  US certified Weightlifting Coach holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with an emphasis in Health and Wellness. A mother of three, her love of fitness began in childhood with her dad, a Canadian hockey coach, and continues with her husband, NHL coach Ray Bennett.

Karla approaches CrossFit today with the same basic principle as when she began in 2008: fit through life. By assessing each person’s functional movement, Karla identifies her client’s strengths and weaknesses to meet them where they are on their athletic journey. From the beginner athlete, who are taking their first step to a healthier life, to the elite athlete trying to increase their athletic performance, Karla individualizes training programs tailored to the needs of each client.

Karla’s  background in nutrition leads to her knowledge of the importance of a healthy lifestyle both in and out of the gym. She will help create and monitor a nutrition regimen to fit each client’s active lifestyle.

Karla’s passion for the well being of each person she meets permeates in her Crossfit community. She designs workouts to both challenges her clients physically and mentally as she helps build overall confidence and strength.

Karla’s favorite WODs are chippers (where participants work through a series of movements one at a time until all complete) followed by her favorite exercise of Wall Balls. She may not enjoy running or Overhead Squats, but values the movements as a means to increase one’s overall fitness and mental toughness.

Karla strives to better the lives of every person who walks through the door of CrossFit GBT every day. You, too, will say, “I Got Better Today!”

Max Bennett

Max Bennett

L1 Coach

I started doing crossfit when I was 12 and have been competing in it heavily since 2016. Currently a student at Lafayette High School and will soon be going to college next year. Have been involved in sports my whole life. Have played hockey, for the most part, along with baseball for some time.
Got a CF level 1 training certificate in the summer of 2019. Favorite part of Crossfit is the competitiveness and hard work that gets put into the gym. I also love the people and community that is involved with Crossfit. Favorite movement in crossfit is the clean and jerk. Least favorite movement is devils press. I like using my talents and skills when I’m coaching to help people progress in Crossfit.

Kassie Bennett

Kassie Bennett

L1 Coach

Kassie has been doing CrossFit since 2012. She is a Level 1 certified CrossFit trainer. She has played sports the majority of her life, which include softball, hockey, soccer, and several others. She is currently studying at the University of Alberta in the Bachelor of Kinesiology program majoring in physical activity and wellness, with the hope of one day becoming an athletic therapist. She started teaching some classes at CFGBT in 2016. Her favorite part of CrossFit is the community aspect that comes with it. Her favorite movements are anything involving weightlifting and her least favorite movement is burpees. Kassie is also the daughter of gym owner and head instructor Karla.

Kelly Brown

Kelly Brown

L1 Coach

Kelly is a full-time high school teacher with a passion for a health-filled lifestyle. Growing up she managed to minimally participate in any sports. Through her early adulthood the only running she did was to the bar for last call — then in 2005, with a colicky baby and toddler in tow, she began running to maintain any bit of sanity. She has since completed more than a dozen half-marathons and one brutally hot full as well as coached others to fulfill their running goals.

In 2012, a mutual friend invited her to Karla’s basement to do this crazy workout thing called CrossFit. Fast forward to 2020, Kelly officially earned her CrossFit Level 1 – because what else does one do during a global pandemic. Oh, and that baby, can now out lift her in the gym.

CrossFit GBT is her happy place. She may not be the strongest, the fastest, or the most coordinated nor is she a fan of wall balls, the assault bike, snatches, or double unders, but she gives everything she has EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. She believes EVERYONE IS CAPABLE to “get better today” — the hardest part is just showing up!

Debbie Kuster

Debbie Kuster

L1 Coach

I am a recently retired kindergarten teacher who has spent most of my life participating in various sports such as softball, basketball, field hockey and golf. Now, I am a CrossFit athlete who loves participating in and talking about all the benefits of CrossFit . I joined CFGBT in May, 2018 and have been excited to learn and get so much from Karla and the CFGBT community. I have been fortunate to also have taken advantage of Karla’s nutrition program. I earned a CrossFit Level 1 certificate in November, 2019 after 18 months of being excited about CrossFit, getting stronger, feeling better and looking fit. I decided I could use my experience and enthusiasm as a teacher and CrossFit athlete by becoming a CrossFit coach. I love seeing others push themselves to get better both mentally and physically. My favorite thing about CrossFit is that everyday is different. Every day is a new day with new ways to get better.

Steve Worley

Steve Worley

L2 Coach

Steve is a CrossFit® Level 2 Trainer with a running and cycling background. Steve’s been active in CrossFit® since 2015 after his oldest daughter invited him to join her for a workout at CrossFit GBT. Finding the benefits of group workouts with family and friends has deeply enriched his life.
Steve grew up on a farm in SE Missouri where chores were more of a priority than sports. After college, he gained a passion for running and cycling as his two daughters grew up active in sports. He’s a successful competitive marathon runner with a full marathon PR of 2:56:43 at age 47 and a 1:23:31 half marathon at 51. A good trail run or track workout feeds his love for running these days.
Steve was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 1995 and has been eating a gluten free diet since. Healthy eating and maintaining an active lifestyle have been constants in his life. He is a strong believer in the power of the CrossFit® lifestyle for anyone and everyone, whether young or old.
The motto “Got Better Today” ties closely to Steve’s joy of the journey. Training for the annual CrossFit® Open is a highlight each year to identify benchmark progress and helps to develop new goals. Steve enjoys encouraging others to build healthy lifestyle habits and loves sharing a good cardio or long chipper style workout.
